Uruguayan countertenor Agustín Pennino is known for his captivating vocal colors and engaging dramatic skills. He has performed on prestigious stages in Uruguay and internationally, with notable roles including Oreste in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène at Teatro Solís and Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Sodre Auditorium (Award-winner in Premios Florencio as best Opera Production 2023 in Uruguay) among others. He has also appeared as a soloist in festivals and concert series such as La Escena Vocal at Sala Verdi, El Viaje del Contratenor at Sodre, and Voz y Guitarra: Música de Cámara at Teatro Casa de la Cultura.​

Discovered in Uruguay in 2022 by David Gowland, Artistic Director of the JPAP Royal Opera House, who encouraged him to move to London to refine his technique. He has worked closely with world-renowned artists, participating in masterclasses with Joyce DiDonato at the CarnegieHall, Iestyn Davies, Michael Chance, Yvonne Kenny, Jean Rigby, Nicky Spence, and Kamal Khan, among others. His training has also been shaped by the OperaWorkshop organized by the UK’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme of the Royal Opera House in collaboration with Uruguay’s Sodre and InterArte.​

His talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including Highly Commended mentions in both the Blyth Buesst Operatic Prize and the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize. He was also awarded first prize at the ANEMOS International Competition in Rome, Italy—where past winners include Rosa Feola and Jessica Pratt—and third place in the Stignani Competition in Imola, Italy.

Looking ahead, Pennino has been accepted into the prestigious Royal Academy Opera Company for 2025/2026. His upcoming engagements include performing Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at Teatro Mayor Bogotá in May 2025, marking his Colombian opera debut.
